Custom Payloads for Silent Falcon UAS
The Discoverer is the only sUAS payload incorporating a state-of-the-art Mid Wave Infrared (MWIR) camera capable of providing extraordinary video and still MWIR images. The MWIR images can detect fugitive hydrocarbon emissions, defects in roadways, bridges, levees, and can discover buried pipelines, sewer lines, unexploded ordinance and other underground anomalies.
The Discoverer payload contains an IRCamera MWIR INSB OEM camera module.
The camera has incredible resolution, and either a 640 x 512 or 1280 x 1040 format is available. Export versions are restricted to the lower resolution.
The Discoverer is interfaced with the sUAS GPS for geo-referencing imagery. Data and imagery collected by the Discoverer is downlinked in real time to the Ground Control Station laptop computer via the sUAS RF data link. Video is displayed and captured on the GCS laptop through its video interface capabilities.
The camera contains an Integrated Dewar Cooler Assembly (IDCA). The MWIR camera is approximately 5.5” long, 2.85” in height and 2.5” wide, excluding the lens, which adds approximately .5” to the length. It weighs less than 2lbs without the lens, and the 25mm lens weighs approximately 2 oz. It requires 12v DC power, and during operation it draws less than 8 watts of power, but consumes 12 watts during the cool down phase, which lasts 6 to 8 minutes depending on ambient temperature.

All of our sensors are designed for simple installation into the Silent Falcon™ sUAS platform, and as with Orion HD25, Discoverer, XCAM and FalconVision, have proprietary communication system interfaces and either on board or ground station data and imagery storage.

The XCAM is an airborne camera system that produces georegistered imagery mosaics with 3 D height data that precisely defines underlying terrain structures. Images produced by the XCAM are integrated with data from its own Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) and GPS receiver electronics. It is provided with a complete photogrammetric software package.
The Orion HD25, made by Trillium Engineering, is a 2.5-inch stabilized camera platform combining high definition visible and long-wave infrared (LWIR) imaging into a single low-power, low weight and small format package. Combined with industry-leading electromechanical performance, the Orion HD25 represents the most advanced small-scale sensor technology for a wide variety of visible and thermal imaging missions and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) applications.
The Orion25 provides High Definition 720p Digital Video through an h.264 compliant video pipeline, as well as 14 Megapixel High Definition still pictures. It can switch to its thermal imager in flight to provide for day and night operations as well as thermal sensing, extending its capabilities far beyond the typical ISR mission.
It has remarkable stabilization capabilities, and live scene tracking with metadata overlays with data from its onboard GPS and INS. These same components provide accurate real-time aircraft and target locations. Video, images and data are downlinked in real time to a sophisticated GUI and software that provides the sensor operator with exceptional data, video and still images, and metadata overlays.
Its small size – 63.5 mm x 97 mm, light weight – 275g, and low power consumption – 10 W extends even further the Silent Falcon™ long endurance making it an excellent sensor choice for Silent Falcon™ systems performing a wide variety of commercial, public safety, and defense missions and applications.
